Five leadership actions

A clear handoff to your teams

Give each initiative one accountable executive who owns the outcome. Name delivery leads for the supporting work. The roles below are a suggested starting point for a global hotel company; adapt them to your existing structure.

01

Own the agenda

Owner: CEO sponsors. One appointed executive runs the program, usually the COO or enterprise transformation leader.

Name an accountable executive. Align responsibilities across the brand, owner, operator and vendor. Review value and material risks at board level.

CEO sets direction, funding and risk boundaries. The program executive coordinates priorities and reports business results and material risks to the board.

02

Back three measurable priorities

Owner: One business executive per workflow: COO for operations, CCO for commercial, CHRO for workforce or CFO for finance.

Select workflows with a clear business owner and baseline. Measure full costs, service effects and evidence of improvement before expansion.

The business owner leads adoption and owns results. CFO validates the economics. CIO/CTO leads technical delivery.

03

Protect your guest relationship

Owner: Chief Commercial Officer (CCO), or the executive responsible for commercial performance and distribution.

Test how AI represents and recommends your hotels. Separately test whether an authorized agent can reach the appropriate booking step. Assign and verify fixes.

Marketing leads AI discovery and brand representation. Distribution tests booking paths. CIO/CTO resolves system issues. Property teams verify hotel facts.

04

Prepare your portfolio and your people

Owner: Chief Operating Officer (COO).

Fund reliable data, connected systems and practical training. Test workflows across a manageable mix of properties before expanding across the portfolio.

CIO/CTO leads technology and integration. The data leader and business data owners lead data quality. CHRO leads workforce capability. Regional leaders and GMs implement locally with required owner/franchise approvals.

05

Set the boundaries for trusted AI

Owner: One CEO-appointed governance lead, normally the Chief Risk Officer or General Counsel. Choose one.

Inventory employee and vendor AI. Define permitted data and actions. Test human escalation, suspension controls and service continuity.

CISO owns security. Legal/privacy leads legal and privacy review. CIO/CTO implements controls. Business owners operate within them. Material risk decisions follow delegated executive authority.

Clear decision rights

Match the role to the responsibility

A CIO, CTO or Chief AI Officer can lead the overall program when given authority over business outcomes and adoption. Each workflow still needs a named business owner. Use the executive who controls the relevant function, budget and decisions when titles differ.

Record the accountable executive, delivery lead, success measure, due date and approval authority for each initiative. For each pilot property, name the GM or operator lead and identify any owner or franchise consent needed.

Titles: CIO = Chief Information Officer; CTO = Chief Technology Officer; CISO = Chief Information Security Officer; CFO = Chief Financial Officer; CHRO = Chief Human Resources Officer. CCO means Chief Commercial Officer here.

Suggested management sequence

The first 90 days

Days 1–30

Name owners, inventory AI, baseline three workflows and select representative properties.

Days 31–60

Run bounded pilots, audit the AI guest journey, close priority data gaps and train the teams involved.

Days 61–90

Review measured results. Decide what to scale, change or stop, with a funded next-stage plan.
