The 2026 PMS API study

The 2026 PMS API Power Index™ — an evidence-based assessment of hotel PMS API accessibility, integration readiness, and support for AI-era innovation. To our knowledge, the most comprehensive study of its kind to date.

93%
Gated or undocumented

Executive summary

A market that looks open, and mostly isn't.

A hotel's PMS increasingly functions as the operational core of a wider technology ecosystem — connected to revenue management, CRM, marketing, guest engagement, BI, point of sale, payments, and a fast-growing set of AI applications. Whether that ecosystem can be built at all depends on one prerequisite: whether the PMS exposes a public, documented API.

HotelLogic and the AI Hospitality Alliance examined the entire discoverable hotel PMS market to find out how many do. Of 343 vendors audited, only 24 (7%) publish fully self-serve API documentation. The remaining 93% are gated or undocumented by default.

Among the 18 scored profiles (17 companies, with Oracle OPERA Cloud and OPERA 5 assessed as separate products), composite scores span from 80.0 down to 26.3 — publishing an API is the entry test, not proof of a capable one. Scoring is anchored to publicly available evidence against ten fixed dimensions; sponsor placement never influences findings, scoring, or vendor placement.

Hoteliers

Use it as a starting point for evaluating technology partners that will keep your organization competitive in an increasingly AI-driven world.

Technology vendors

Use the findings to prioritize integration roadmaps toward platforms actively enabling innovation.

PMS providers

Treat the index as an opportunity to strengthen API and AI strategy and close existing gaps.

The scorecard

Composite is the weighted mean of ten capability dimensions on a 0–100 scale. Snapshot date 2026-09-01; reconciled scores take precedence where available.

PMS API Power Index scorecard: 18 scored profiles across ten capability dimensions, composite scores ranging from 80.0 (Mews) to 26.3 (Oracle OPERA 5).

Key findings

What the evidence shows

  1. 1

    Open documentation is rare

Only 24 of 343 audited vendors — 7% of the market — publish fully self-serve API documentation. The remaining 93% are gated or undocumented by default.

  2. 2

    Availability is not maturity

Among the 18 scored profiles, composite scores span from 80.0 (Mews) to 26.3 (Oracle OPERA 5). Publishing an API is the entry test — not proof of a capable one.

  3. 3

Strong scores concentrate at the top

The top five vendors — Mews, Apaleo, Oracle OPERA Cloud, Beds24, Cloudbeds — all score 73.3 or above. The remaining thirteen fall below 60, with a long tail into the high 20s.

  4. 4

Event-driven capability and AI readiness vary widely

Webhook maturity and AI-agent suitability are not yet standard. AI Readiness does not reach the top of the scale for any assessed vendor.

  5. 5

Governance is only beginning to separate leaders

Only two of eighteen profiles score above 3 on Governance & Security. The most common failure is the absence of a locatable GDPR data processing agreement.
