AI Hospitality Alliance publishes free, practical framework that gives hospitality organizations a shared roadmap for governing AI responsibly, from risk and accountability to agentic AI
SAN DIEGO, Calif. – September 25, 2026 – The AI Hospitality Alliance (AIHA) today announced the publication of the Hospitality AI Governance Framework, the first comprehensive AI governance framework developed specifically for the hospitality industry.
Available free of charge, the framework gives hotel companies, owners, operators, management companies and technology providers a practical foundation for developing AI governance within their own organizations. It translates widely recognized standards and principles into guidance tailored to the realities of hospitality operations.
As AI becomes embedded across hotel systems, guest interactions, workforce processes and commercial decisions, adoption is advancing faster than the industry's ability to govern it consistently. The new framework helps organizations answer critical questions: What AI is already in use? Who is accountable for it? What decisions may it make? What safeguards are required? When must a human intervene? And how can the organization demonstrate that its AI is being governed responsibly?

Five Pillars of Hospitality AI Governance
The framework organizes hospitality AI governance around five pillars:
- AI Systems, Risk and Accountability – Understanding what AI the organization uses, assessing its risk and assigning accountability and decision rights.
- People, Guests and Workforce – Establishing expectations for transparency, fairness, human oversight, contestability, redress and acceptable employee use.
- Data, Security and Assurance – Protecting data and systems while creating the testing, documentation and evidence required to establish trust.
- Vendors, Technology Stack, Procurement and AI Lifecycle – Governing AI throughout vendor selection, deployment, monitoring, incident response, change management and retirement.
- AI Agents and the Hospitality Ecosystem – Defining identity, authority, permissions, oversight and data safeguards for AI systems capable of acting on behalf of guests or hospitality organizations.
Together, the pillars contain 26 governance capabilities designed to help organizations move from high-level principles to practical action.
Designed for Practical Adoption
The framework includes:
- Common definitions, governance principles and governance functions
- Hospitality-specific risk classification guidance
- Accountability and decision-rights models
- AI governance literacy guidance for employees and leaders
- Governance health indicators
- A minimum viable governance model
- A vendor due diligence questionnaire
- Guidance for governing AI agents and AI-to-AI interactions
- Regional regulatory context and an indicative NIST AI Risk Management Framework crosswalk
- Hospitality examples and reusable implementation tools
- Full and simplified versions for organizations at different stages of AI adoption
The framework is designed to be applied proportionately. Smaller and independent organizations can use simplified records and processes, while enterprise groups can introduce greater formality and coordination based on their scale, AI use, operating structure and risk exposure.
It is a voluntary, standards-neutral industry reference rather than a compliance certification or substitute for legal advice. Each organization remains responsible for adapting the guidance to its circumstances and the jurisdictions in which it operates.
AIHA extends its sincere appreciation to the contributors whose substantive work shaped the framework.
